QUICK TIPS FOR SQUATTING WITH back PAIN

  • If you have back pain, lifters (weightlifting shoes) can help to keep your trunk more upright. This helps to distribute the effort more through your legs, lessening the effort through your back.

  • Rather than cutting squats out completely try squatting to a box so that your depth is controlled. It also gives you the opportunity to keep the trunk more upright and again maximise your leg drive.

  • If it is just a specific load that triggers your symptoms, lower the weight to a point that pain is no more than mild/ tolerable and work on squat pauses or controlled eccentric technique, really thinking about driving through your legs.
